M5 reopens after man struck by vehicle and killed

THE M5 has reopened after a man was struck by a vehicle and killed.

Police were called to the M5 at about 4.30am this morning (July 20) to a report of a pedestrian in the southbound carriageway.

Officers found an injured man just south of Junction 20 (Clevedon).

The man had been struck by a vehicle and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

The M5 southbound between junction 20 for Clevedon and junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare was closed for a number of hours while police collision investigators were at the scene but it has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said the man’s next of kin have been informed.

“The driver involved has been spoken to by officers,” the police spokesperson added.
