Avon and Somerset Police are urging residents to be vigilant and shared a message on social media through their Taunton Neighbourhood Policing Facebook page.
A police spokesperson said: “There are various types of Fraud that our communities experience, and can range from anonymous online fraudsters that can target us from our armchair, and more recognisable face-to-face fraud, door knocking and cold calling.
“If you are part of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, you would have seen a message recently warning you and reminding you of Rogue Traders in our areas.
“These are criminals knocking on our doors unexpectedly offering products or services that you have not enquired about.
“Fraudsters convince you to pay for goods or work which is overpriced, poor quality, or is not even carried out.
“They may use intimidation and pressure you to make quick decisions, so you agree to their demands.
“Please look after your elderly or more vulnerable neighbours who may be more susceptible to being a victim of this type of crime.
“You can find approved tradesmen here which is part of Trading Standards service.
“All the businesses listed on this website have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards to ensure that they operate in a legal, honest and fair way.”
