Motorcyclist dies in crash at gorge

A motorcyclist in his 30s has died after crashing on a road through Cheddar Gorge in Somerset.

The crash happened at about 21:45 BST on Thursday at The Cliffs.

Two road ambulances and an air ambulance attended to treat the man, who had collided with street furniture, but he died at the scene. His family has been told, Avon and Somerset Police said.

The road through Cheddar Gorge was closed overnight then reopened at 06:30 on Friday.

A police spokesperson said: “His next of kin has been informed and our thoughts and sincere condolences are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

“A specialist family liaison officer will be offered to the man’s family to provide support.”
